early spring hike

Nature is in the starting blocks!

On the first Sunday in March we set off at midday for a short early spring hike. With 4°C and a bright blue sky, it was wonderful hiking weather. We actually just wanted to go for a little walk, but the wonderful blue sky and the very calm water of the Edersee turned the walk into a wonderful photo tour. You could see from the plants and their buds that nature is literally in the starting blocks and is just waiting for the first sunny and warm days of spring to simply explode and cover the landscape with the cheerful green of spring.

This beautiful route leads from the Bärenbach hiking car park through the slopes above the Randstraße to the Mühlecke and back again. A very beautiful part of the Urwaldsteig is walked. Along the way there is a great landscape with wild tree shapes and beautiful rest and viewing points

From the Bärental hiking car park, we first headed towards the Urwaldsteig and then initially on a wider path through the Fischegrund. A few hundred metres further on, just after a fork in the road, the Urwaldstein turns left and leaves the wide forest path. From here, we follow narrow, natural paths through the steep slope north of the Edersee. The path is lined with wondrous tree shapes, dead wood, rocks and beautiful reindeer moss. There are two beautifully situated benches, each of which offers a great view of the Edersee in the direction of Rehbach, Scheid and the treetop path. After going downhill a little, we turn sharply left and past the Mühlecke back towards the starting point. The last part of the path leads along the edge road. Here you can take some nice photos on the banks of the Edersee, e.g. at the diving tree. You can find a gpx track of the tour in our tour portal.
Have you ever taken a close look at the signposts in the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park?

One of the photos shows a runner, where you can read NLP 8129.
Each of these runners, as the wooden posts that show you the way are called, contains a plaque with an individual location number and the general emergency telephone number.
If something happens to someone, you should run forwards or backwards along the path until you reach the next runner. With the location number attached to it, the control center can identify your location and immediately initiate the appropriate rescue measures. You can find out more about this in the visitor rules of the national park.
There are many smaller hiking trails at the Edersee that are easy to reach and that take you to the most beautiful places on the Urwaldsteig in a short time. You are quickly surrounded by a landscape that takes you into a dreamlike natural setting. On weekends in the high season, the traffic on the side road can spoil the nature experience somewhat. If you want to avoid this, it is advisable to do this trail on weekdays or outside of the high season. I am already looking forward to running it again when the fresh leaves of spring decorate the landscape.
“With its diverse possibilities, the Edersee offers almost everyone the chance to spend a weekend, an interesting holiday or their whole life.”
