All hiking trails at a glance:

This original and honest forest lets me pause and breathe deeply.

When traveling in our densely populated country, it's always exciting to experience how central and easily accessible this wonderful national park is. Such large, unbroken copper beech forests are rare. The primeval forest trail provides easy access, yet you'll quickly find yourself alone because it's not overcrowded.

As a child, the forest near Frankenau was my playground. As a teenager, I wanted to get out into the world, as far away as possible. Since then, my perspective has sharpened. When I'm here, I feel "home." I'm rooted here, just like the trees that have stretched their roots here for hundreds of years. The steep slopes along the banks of the EderseeThey are fascinating. The orchids and carnations that grow here are true treasures.

My favorite time to hike is November. Autumn, with its colorful foliage, is always beautiful, but November is especially so. The slightly musty leaves smell spicy. The forest feels vast because your gaze is no longer confined. The gnarled, creaking trunks and branches are much more tangible. And when the fog swirls around, it becomes truly mystical.

What touches me most is that nature in the national park is not a staging, but rather the honesty and clarity of a landscape. She immerses you and takes you inside.
