Today's hotel, excursion destination and museum towers 120 meters above the Edersee and is a popular viewing point for visitors.
Waldeck Castle is a castle complex from the 11th century, 120m above Lake Edersee. From here you can enjoy the unique landscape of the Waldecker Land. Once the ancestral home of the Counts of Waldeck, the fortress also served as a barracks. In 1734 it was a state penitentiary, later a state archive, forestry office and from 1906 it was used as a hotel. The exhibition "Behind Lock and Bar" in the castle's cellar vaults impressively shows visitors what happened in this historic place. A particularly beautiful excursion destination is the viewing terrace, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of Lake Edersee.
