This charming circular route leads from the “Snow White Village” Bergfreiheit through dense beech forests in the unspoilt landscape of the Kellerwald.
This beautiful circular route leads from the traditional mining village of Bergfreiheit in the Urff Valley into the forest, where it runs most of the way. The climb takes you through an oak-hornbeam forest, and then old beech stands dominate the picture, so that here - in winter and summer - you can experience the typical and special vegetation of the Kellerwald in its original form.
In some places along the Finstertal the forest offers a view of the surrounding mountains. Towards the end of the hike you are rewarded with one of the most beautiful views: The path enters a meadow far above the town, from which you have a wonderful, wide view of the eastern Urfftal and the surrounding mountains as well as south to the desert garden highest elevation in the Kellerwald.
Despite dangerous-sounding field names such as “knee-breaker”, the small but very beautiful tour does not contain any significant difficulties and is therefore also recommended for families with children who love hiking, also in combination with the sights described below.
