Best Season

On this stage the jungle trail between Herzhausen and Asel is hiked. The Edersee is omnipresent on this stage and mostly runs along the edge or bank!

From Herzhausen or Kirchlotheim, a little further upstream, the Urwaldsteig first leads through the fields above the Teichmann camping and holiday park (National Park Center), circles the Ochsenbühl and then reaches the dam of the Edersee at the Eder Bridge near Herzhausen.

You hike on the Edersee promenade with a view of the “Ederufer bei Herzhausen” nature reserve – a water bird paradise. When the water recedes, pioneer plants cover the lake bed and, together with extensive sedge, shape the image of the so-called “Ederfeld”.

Behind Herzhausen the path hugs the steep Edersee slopes.

Below the Hochstein you cross an impressive rubble slope with rustic forest stands. Views of the lake always invite you to linger.

At the Hohefahrt you climb uphill to the next slope path, which leads you safely to Asel.
