The forest of gnomes and mythical creatures grows out of oaks and beeches on a slatey, lichen-rich steep slope. If you can separate yourself, the trail continues along the Edersee slope with stunted forests and views until the Bärentalbach is reached. The stream has dug deep into the rock. Water, moist air and nutrients from the Zechstein above ensure a lush plant world.
A wooden bridge takes you onto the serpentine path steeply out of the stream valley. The Urwaldsteig then leads slowly down through natural forests into Waldecker Bay.
Finally, we go up the Schlossberg and reach the stage destination Waldeck with the castle that towers over everything.
