Fourteen churches around the Edersee and along the Eder cycle path invite you to a special and innovative exploration with the barrier-free information systems.

The first church cycle path in the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck has been connecting fourteen churches in the Eder church district since May 2018 over a total distance of approx. 110 km. It goes around the Edersee and then goes from the dam in an easterly direction along the Eder to Mandern. By equipping the churches with a multimedia, barrier-free information system, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the church and the respective location, listen to devotions and pieces of music, solve puzzles or receive tips on how to continue their journey. “Kirchenam Eder-Radweg” is the first multimedia-equipped cycle path in Europe.

We wish everyone on the road great experiences, lots of fun exploring the churches and a safe journey with wonderful views of the beautiful nature.

The Evangelical churches of Affoldern, Anraff, Basdorf, Bergheim, Bringhausen, Giflitz, Kirchlotheim, Mandern, Nieder-Werbe, Scheid, Vöhl, Waldeck, Wega and Wellen are happy.

Multimedia information system

The multimedia information system - consisting of a terminal tablet in a body with a loudspeaker system - creates a connecting element in these churches.

Visitors receive a wide range of information and suggestions in a modern and up-to-date way. By touching the screen, texts, images, audio messages (e.g. organ music) and videos are presented.

The innovative thing about this project is raising awareness of the church treasures in the region. The aim here is not to produce new things, but rather to shed light on the “well-known” with a new, modern medium (tablet information system) and to make it interesting and (newly) accessible to a larger public.
