Route 1, which is around 10 kilometers long, opens up the special features of the desert garden in the Hohen Keller - at 675 meters the highest mountain in the nature park. An experience is the ridge hike from the rock massif of the Exhelmersteine, past the stone mousetrap to the summit. The ascent is accompanied by rare lichen meadows, rocky heaths, a bizarre mountain beech forest and the remains of a Celtic fortification. The reward is a unique all-round view from the Kellerwald tower into the surrounding forest landscape. When the weather is good, the view extends to the Vogelsberg or the Harz and many other landscapes in the surrounding area. The route goes back through the wide beech forest of the Hoher Keller.
