Varied forest images, green meadow valleys, insights into the history of the earth, the old Hutewald “Halloh” with its rustic tree shapes – for nature lovers, this path offers a wealth of fascinating impressions of the northern Hesse cultural landscape.
Hiking experience on paths close to nature, the silence away from the noises of civilization, numerous attractive views, but also insights into life in times gone by: this circular hiking trail offers all of this with a start and finish on the outskirts of Reinhardshausen.
At Hahnberg the path takes a detour to the former roofing slate pit. Until the beginning of the 20th century, slate was mined here in underground and open-cast mining. Today, the post-mining landscape with quarries and spoil heaps worth seeing offers a refuge for numerous rare animal and plant species as well as lichens.
An insider tip on the heights between Hüddingen and Albertshausen is the Totenpfuhl natural monument: a mysterious drainless “sky pond” with an ancient oak tree, 200 m away from the main path.
The highlight of the circular route is the old Hutewald Halloh. Historical use as a forest pasture for pigs has produced rustic tree shapes that have a special power and encourage people to linger intensively.
With a length of 12 km, a lot of nature and some climbs, fans of challenging hiking will get their money's worth. The circular route uses existing markings (R1 and Kellerwaldsteig), but also previous side paths, in order to reduce asphalted routes to a minimum.
Refreshments, some with regional products, can be found in the districts of Hüddingen, Albertshausen and Reinhardshausen.
