Nature
The Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park is located in wooded northern Hesse and surrounds the national park of the same name, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even in Roman times, the beech was the predominant tree species in Germania. Our cellar forest is one of the rare remnants of this primeval forest. It is exceptional in its size and originality and is therefore valuable and worth protecting. In the middle of it all, the 27 km long Edersee winds its way through the valley. Imposing steep slopes with rustic oaks and beech trees surround it and the mighty dam wall delimits it on the eastern bank.
The popular hiking trails Urwaldsteig Edersee and Kellerwaldsteig lead through the Kellerwald-Edersee nature and national park. The Lichtenfels Panorama Trail connects the region with the Hochsauerland. The Habichtswaldsteig ends at the Edersee dam and forms a connection with the neighboring Habichtswald Nature Park and the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kassel.
