Castle - Waldeck Castle and its counts
Changing rulers, merchants and craftsmen have shaped the history of the city.
The town of Waldeck owes its existence to a knight who once built his castle on a wooded hill high above the Edertal. What has the defiant walls not "experienced" since its existence?
Imperial troops, French and even Englishmen can be found among the lords of the castle. Only two cannons on the edge of the wall and a few tools of war in the castle museum are reminiscent of the troubled times. A trip into the past is a visit to the museum of Waldeck Castle. The exhibition is geared towards the state penitentiary period.

A flyer for the Old Town tour is available at the Tourist Information Center. You can also simply stroll through the alleys. Information is posted at the sights. The path leads past the old rectory, the town fountain, the Shepherd's House, the Netzer Gate, and along the cemetery, over the Lindenberg to the Elsterberg. There, the old city wall is still well preserved. And from here, you have a wonderful view of the Edersee and to Waldeck Castle. From here, the main road leads back to the town center. Past the market square, we returned to the starting point. If the short tour through the old town isn't enough, there are numerous hiking trails around Waldeck. In general, the “AST-Taxi” (CallSammelTaxi) should also be included in the planning. With the CallSammelTaxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in great demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - you just have to register your wish to travel by telephone (usually) up to 30 minutes before the journey. Also remember that AST only run when there are no normal buses running at the same time.
